Progress and Promise

Crawford County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) is experiencing a period of significant growth and improvement. Under the leadership of President and CEO Erin Muck, the hospital is embarking on an ambitious construction project, welcoming new medical professionals, and enhancing patient care through technological advancements.

Construction Progressing

The hospital’s construction project is moving forward steadily. Muck says while initial progress may have been less visible, with work primarily occurring underground, the project is now gaining momentum.

“Steel is being erected, and the hospital recently hosted a beam signing ceremony, allowing staff to participate in this historic milestone. Phase One of the project is on track for completion by February 2026, at which point Rehabilitation Services will be relocated back to CCMH from the Luft clinic at the bottom of the hill, and two-thirds of the medical clinic providers and staff will move into its new space.”

New Physicians Joining the Team

Muck noted CCMH is bolstering its medical staff with the addition of several new providers.

“Dr. Evelina Todd, a highly skilled family medicine physician, joined the team earlier this month, specializing in chronic care and acute illnesses. Dr. Laxmi Kumari, another experienced family medicine physician, will begin her practice in February. In March, Dr. Richard Malyszek, a general surgeon with extensive experience, will join Dr. David Wright, strengthening the hospital’s surgical capabilities.”

Enhanced Patient Care

CCMH has implemented a new electronic medical record (EMR) system, which has significantly improved patient care. Muck explained the new EMR provides patients with a more robust patient portal.

“The new portal allows our patients to access their lab results, appointment history, and other important medical information. While the initial implementation phase presented challenges, the hospital staff successfully navigated these obstacles, and the patient portal is now a valuable resource for patients.”

Technological Advancements

Muck congratulated the CCMH Board of Trustees on their recent decision to upgrade the Radiology department with a new CT scanner.

“Recognizing the importance of cutting-edge technology, CCMH recently upgraded its Radiology department with a state-of-the-art, 128-slice CT scanner. This advanced technology will enable the hospital to provide higher-quality images and expand the range of diagnostic services available to patients. The Board deserves recognition for a decision that will serve our patients well into the future.”

Financial Sustainability

As the hospital prepares for the upcoming fiscal year, Musk says budgeting remains a crucial focus.

“Factors such as rising drug costs, increasing supply costs, and changes in insurance reimbursement rates pose significant challenges. CCMH is committed to financial responsibility and continues to explore ways to optimize operations and control costs.”

Looking Ahead

Muck stated 2025 promises to be a year of continued growth and success for CCMH.

“With ongoing construction, the arrival of new medical professionals, and the implementation of innovative technologies, the hospital is well-positioned to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to the Crawford County community in 2025 and beyond.”
