Overview
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy assists patients in obtaining their maximum level of function in the areas of Activities of Daily Living (eating, dressing, bathing, cooking, etc.), work, and leisure. This can take place after any type of illness or injury. Examples include, but are not limited to, the following: strokes, hip/knee replacements, head injuries, generalized weakness, arthritis and fractures or tendonitis of the elbow, wrist, and hand.
Occupational therapy works in conjunction with physicians and other healthcare providers at CCMH. All services provided by occupational therapy require a physician’s order. These services can be provided to In-patients, Out-patients, or though contract to Home Health clients. The goal of occupational therapy is to rehabilitate through therapeutic exercises, or to provide training regarding adaptive techniques or equipment, so that the individual can achieve his or her highest level of functioning in daily life and work activities.

Cardiac Rehab
The Cardiac Rehab program offered at Crawford County Memorial Hospital is a complete course geared toward changing lifestyles. The main component of Cardiac Rehab is an exercise program aimed at getting the heart muscle back in shape after a heart attack, stent placement, bypass surgery or valve replacements. Participants also receive patient education regarding heart disease and risk factors. Additionally, a consultation with CCMH’s registered dietician to cover dietary concerns is included in the program.
The program is 36 sessions, spanned over 12 weeks. Participants meet three times a week for about one hour in length. The program is housed inside the beautiful Rehab Services Department, conveniently located just inside the main entrance of the hospital. A physician referral is necessary to participate in the Cardiac Rehab program at Crawford County Memorial Hospital. For more information, call 712.265.2500 and ask for Cardiac Rehab.
Pulmonary Rehab
Crawford County Memorial Hospital offers a 36-session Pulmonary Rehab program for patients who have chronic lung conditions. The program teaches patients exercises to help them strengthen muscles used in breathing so they can breathe more efficiently. It also teaches them more in depth about how the lungs work, understanding medication, diet, and environmental factors.
The Pulmonary Rehab program consists of two classes a week for eighteen weeks. A physician’s order is necessary for the program. For more information, call 712.265.2500 and ask for Pulmonary Rehab.
