In this episode of Here’s to Your Health, host Jill Melby sits down with Dustin Durbin, the Volunteer Coordinator at Crawford County Memorial Hospital (CCMH). They dive into the details of the Patient Partners Program.
The program focuses on skilled care patients who often face long recoveries away from home. Volunteers provide social interaction for those who may not have family in the local area.
Volunteers of the Patient Partners Program build bonds with the patients through shared interests like playing cards, checkers, coloring, or discussing hobbies like gardening and cars.
Dustin emphasizes that the program is highly adaptable to a volunteer’s schedule, but the typical hours fall between 10:45 AM and 1:00 PM.
You don’t need to be a healthcare professional to make a difference. The only “training” involves shadowing to learn how to spark engaging, cognitive conversations.
