The Mark of Excellence with Dr. Elizabeth Ranniger

Elizabeth Ranniger, MD is a pediatrician at CCMH. She recently received special recognition based on her Press Ganey survey scores. Her dedication to patient care has earned her a spot in the 99th percentile for the last 18 months—an incredible accomplishment that speaks volumes about her practice.

What is Press Ganey?

For those unfamiliar, Press Ganey is a company that administers standardized questionnaires to patients after their visits. These surveys ask a range of questions, such as whether patients felt listened to, if they were able to participate in their own care, and if they were treated appropriately.

These surveys are crucial because they provide valuable feedback that helps CCMH measure and improve patient satisfaction. The survey results also cover aspects like wait times and the attitude of the nursing staff, offering a comprehensive look at the entire patient experience. CCMH strongly encourages all patients to fill out these surveys, as they allow us to celebrate outstanding professionals like Dr. Ranniger.

Patients are Most Important

Dr. Ranniger believes what sets her apart is her passion for her work.

“As a pediatrician, all of my patients are children. It’s the part of my job I absolutely adore. I see it as a great honor to be a part of a family’s journey, whether they are facing their best or worst day. My happiest days are spent helping parents, patients and families to navigate the complexities of the healthcare system to ensure their child receives the best care possible.”

Doctor Mom

Dr. Ranniger also believes that being a mother herself has been the best training she could have ever received.

“I was a pediatrician for three years before having my own children. I quickly realized that hands-on experience as a parent teaches you things you could never learn in medical school. This personal experience allows me to relate to and empathize with the families I serve. Having my own family helps me to understand patients and parents stresses and concerns in a way that pure academic knowledge never could.”

Relationship Building

In Dr. Ranniger’s view, medicine is fundamentally about building a relationship of trust between the provider and the patient and their family.

“I try to make a conscious effort to listen intently to my patients and their parents. If necessary, I will ask additional questions when necessary to understand their needs fully. My commitment to active listening and genuine empathy is clearly what has helped me build my practice in Denison.”

You’re Only as Good as Your Partners

Dr. Ranniger was also quick to share the credit for her success, highlighting that her outstanding scores are not a solo effort.

“I could not do what I do, or deliver the care I provide without Nicole Dehner, my primary nurse. She and I have worked together for almost eight years. Nicole is highly experienced. She adores children and is an integral part of our team. I would be remiss if I did not also extend my gratitude to the entire clinic staff, including other nurses, patient access representatives, along with the interpreters and EVS staff.”

Healthcare Truths

This highlights an essential truth about healthcare: it’s a team effort. No one succeeds alone. The patient journey begins with the patient access staff who schedule appointments and continues through every member of the team. CCMH uses the feedback from these surveys to identify areas for improvement and to continuously enhance the patient experience for everyone.

Dr. Ranniger’s journey to becoming a physician was a demanding one, and her success is a testament not just to her intellect, but to her character. Her ability to listen with empathy and compassion is a core part of who she is as a person, and it’s the reason her patients and their families trust her so deeply.
