Food Allergies & Sensitivities

Food Allergies & Sensitivities

Understanding how your body reacts to food is an important step toward feeling your best. Whether you’re dealing with uncomfortable symptoms or managing a diagnosed condition, our team is here to help you find answers and build a plan that works for you.

What’s the Difference?

Food Allergies

Food allergies involve the immune system. Even small amounts of a trigger food can cause a reaction.

Common symptoms may include:

  • Hives or skin rash
  • Swelling of the lips, face, or throat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Severe reactions (anaphylaxis)

Common food allergens:

  • Peanuts
  • Tree nuts
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Sesame
  • Wheat
  • Soy
  • Fish and shellfish

Food Sensitivities (Intolerances)

Food sensitivities do not involve the immune system but can still cause uncomfortable symptoms.

Common symptoms may include:

  • Bloating or gas
  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue

Common examples:

  • Lactose intolerance
  • Gluten sensitivity
