CCMH Set To Begin Freedom From Smoking Quit Program In January 2024

(Denison, IA) – Crawford County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) has announced a Freedom From Smoking Quit Program which will commence on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 7 pm at the hospital. Patrick Stevens, Director of Cardiopulmonary Services at CCMH, will lead the American Lung Association program. The cost of the 7-week, 8-session program is $25.00. Class size is limited. For more information or to register to attend, call 712-265-2500.

Stevens says the Freedom From Smoking (FFS) program has been used effectively around the United State for many years to assist people with breaking the habit of smoking, using any sort of tobacco products, and vaping. Each session will last about 1.5 to 2 hours. The FFS sessions will focus on the psychological, physical, and addictive aspect of tobacco use and vaping. Sessions will also discuss methods to stop smoking, the use of over-the-counter medications like nicotine gum and patches, and, if necessary, prescription medications.

In the fourth week, there are two sessions, one on Tuesday and the other on Thursday, which is “Quit Day”. After Quit Day, support groups will be available to prevent relapses in behavior. The FFS sessions are open to anyone regardless of race, color, religion, country of origin, age, gender, gender identity, or disability.
