Sarah Gaul, CCMH’s Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), discusses the stats of diabetes in Crawford County, which are significantly higher than both state and national averages, and explains the crucial role of early detection and proper management in preventing severe, long-term complications like heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease. She details the structure of the CCMH Diabetes Management Program. The program provides comprehensive education, combining lifestyle and medication management across seven key areas of self-care, and explains how patients with a diabetes diagnosis can easily get a physician referral to access these vital educational services.
