Dr. Ayman Ghattas is an Emergency Department physician at Crawford County Memorial Hospital who brings a patient-centered and community-focused approach to emergency care. Born in Mississippi and raised in a military family, he had the opportunity to live in different parts of the world and experience a wide range of cultures, communities, and perspectives. Those experiences helped shape his appreciation for connecting with people from all walks of life and gave him a broader understanding of how culture and different approaches to medicine can influence the way patients view health and healthcare.
Dr. Ghattas earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida, with minors in Biology to Physics. While completing medical school at Saint James School of Medicine, he simultaneously earned a Master of Public Health from Walden University and did his practicum in women’s health, giving him an additional perspective on population health, prevention, and the broader factors that influence patient outcomes. He completed his third- and fourth-year clinical clerkships in Chicago, Illinois, gaining broad clinical experience across a diverse patient population.
He later completed his Family Medicine residency at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
During residency, Dr. Ghattas completed a rotation at Crawford County Memorial Hospital, where he experienced rural medicine firsthand. He was drawn to the broad scope of rural practice, the close-knit community, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while caring for patients with a wide variety of medical needs. That experience ultimately played an important role in his decision to return to Crawford County as an Emergency Department physician.
His clinical interests include emergency medicine, rural medicine, procedural care, and caring for patients across all stages of life. His training in Family Medicine, combined with his background in Public Health and his exposure to different cultures and approaches to healthcare, allows him to approach acute medical problems with a broad perspective while also considering the larger factors that may affect a patient’s health.
Dr. Ghattas particularly values the relationships that can be built in a rural hospital setting. He believes patients deserve to feel heard and understood, even during the fast-paced and often stressful circumstances of an emergency department visit. He strives to combine efficient, evidence-based emergency care with a thoughtful and individualized approach to each patient.
Outside of direct patient care, Dr. Ghattas also has interests in medical education, mentoring, community health, and quality improvement.
