Dr. Sam Rathe was born and raised in Ames, Iowa. He graduated from
Ames High School and went on to attend The University of Iowa where he earned a B.S. in
Human Physiology. This was followed by his medical education at Des Moines University
College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery and completion of an extensive, three-year
Pediatric surgery residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in
Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Rathe enjoys anything active and outdoors especially snow skiing,
golf, soccer, long walks outside with a good podcast or music, as well as some pick-up
basketball here and there. Dr. Rathe makes it a priority to spend time with family and
friends including his wife, Emily, whom he married in the summer of 2020 at the peak of the
COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Rathe has a passion for providing compassionate, kind, personalized care for patients.
He chose medicine and in particular Podiatry to help people stay active, pain-free, and on
their feet in order to live life to the fullest. He values getting to know his patients and
establishing long-term care relationships. His philosophy is to work together with his
patients so they can together arrive at a treatment plan that best works for them. He is
board-qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ABFAS).

foot, ankle, and lower leg. This includes non-surgical treatments of foot and ankle
conditions, foot and ankle surgical reconstruction with a special emphasis on forefoot and
midfoot procedures, sports medicine, and diabetic foot care including wound care and
limb salvage.
