Crawford County Memorial Hospital was thrilled to host its annual Scrubs Camp on January 15th and 16th, 2025—an engaging and informative event designed for students exploring careers in healthcare. The camp provided a hands-on, interactive experience, offering participants a unique opportunity to explore a variety of medical fields.
This year’s curriculum was designed to give students a broad perspective of healthcare careers, featuring sessions in the following areas:
• Physical and Occupational Therapy
• Laboratory Services
• Radiology & Ultrasound
• Emergency Medical Services
• Surgery
• Anesthesia
• Pharmacy
In addition to these breakout sessions, Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) presented valuable information on college pathways, and Simulation in Motion-Iowa (SIM-IA) provided two realistic, high-fidelity medical emergency simulations, allowing students to step into life-or-death scenarios and gain hands-on experience.
According to post-camp survey results, 100% of students reported they would recommend Scrubs Camp to a friend. Many indicated that the experience not only helped them clarify their career goals but also opened their eyes to other potential healthcare paths they hadn’t previously considered. Several students noted that the camp even influenced them to explore new fields within healthcare, based on the hands-on experiences they gained during the event.
“I wanted to come back and experience Scrubs Camp again because of all the different experiences you get. I feel like you learn something new every time. I think anyone should go to it, even if they’re not interested in a medical feel because it’s a good experience. Anyone could enjoy it and have fun,” said Natalie Melby, Scrubs Camp participant.
