Crawford County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) welcomes Dr. Samuel Rathe, DPM, AACFAS, to its medical team as a podiatrist, expanding access to comprehensive foot and ankle care for patients throughout the region.
Dr. Rathe is an Iowa native who was born and raised in Ames. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Physiology from the University of Iowa before completing his medical education at Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. He then completed an extensive three-year surgical residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Rathe provides comprehensive podiatric care, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the foot, ankle and lower leg. His expertise includes non-surgical treatment of foot and ankle conditions, foot and ankle surgical reconstruction—with a special emphasis on forefoot and midfoot procedures—sports medicine, and diabetic foot care, including wound care and limb salvage.
Patients can seek care for a wide range of conditions, including bunions, hammertoes, arthritis, heel pain, Achilles tendonitis, ingrown and fungal toenails, corns and calluses, gout, warts, foot and ankle injuries, flat feet, high arches and diabetic foot complications such as wounds, infections and nerve damage.
Dr. Rathe’s decision to pursue podiatry was driven by his desire to help people stay active, pain-free and on their feet so they can live life to the fullest.
“I have a passion for providing compassionate, kind and personalized care,” said Dr. Rathe. “I enjoy getting to know my patients and establishing long-term relationships. My goal is to work together with each patient to develop a treatment plan that best fits their needs and helps them get back to doing the things they enjoy.”
Dr. Rathe is board-qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ABFAS).
Outside of medicine, Dr. Rathe enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors. His interests include snow skiing, golf, soccer, basketball and taking long walks while listening to podcasts or music. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Emily, and family and friends.
