Crawford County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) recently hosted 15 students from local schools for this summer’s Scrubs Camp on August 5th. Scrubs Camp at CCMH gives area youth an inside look at many of the career opportunities available in healthcare.

The students, who were in the 8th, 10th and 11th grades, brought an incredible amount of energy and enthusiasm to Scrubs Camp. Through hands-on activities and interactive learning, they were able to experience healthcare careers and discover how many different roles come together to care for patients.
Throughout the day, CCMH team members showed students a variety of healthcare careers, including rehabilitation services, nursing, surgery, anesthesia, emergency services, radiology and laboratory services.

The success of Scrubs Camp would not be possible without the outstanding participation from staff across the organization. Employees from numerous departments volunteered their time and expertise to create meaningful experiences for the campers and help them better understand the opportunities available in healthcare.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this Scrubs Camp in August was seeing former Scrubs Camp participants return, but as CCMH employees who chaperoned the camp. They worked alongside current campers and led them through the camp they once attended as students.
Their return represents something special and meaningful for CCMH. It’s a full-circle moment that demonstrates the lasting impact Scrubs Camp can have on local students and the future of healthcare in our community.
“Seeing previous campers come back as employees and now help inspire the next group is one of the greatest accomplishments of Scrubs Camp,” said Dana Neenann, Nurse Director of Education & Patient Experience.

By introducing students to healthcare careers at an early age, Scrubs Camp provides an opportunity to spark curiosity, build connections with local healthcare professionals and help students find their interest in healthcare, and hopefully return to work right here in their own community.
CCMH is proud to continue investing in the next generation and looks forward to seeing more students at our next Scrubs Camp.
