EKG
Physicians can order an EKG (electrocardiogram) to check for problems with electrical activity of your heart to help diagnose cardiac conditions. CCMH offers a 12-lead EKG monitoring for a period of 3 to 14 days, and 24 to 48 hour Holter Monitors. In addition, the department provides event recorders and wireless EKG testing.
Common reasons an EKG can be ordered
- Find the cause of unexplained chest pain
- Find the cause of symptoms of heart disease (such as shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting or rapid, irregular heartbeats)
- Determine if implanted mechanical devices (such as a pacemaker) are working to control a normal heartbeat
- Check the health of the heart when other diseases are present
